VINEYARDS JOHN VATISTAS

The vineyards of John Vatistas are spread in the plain of Voion and on the mountainside of Pantanassa, next to Monemvasia, where the famous wine "Malvasia" used to be produced.

John Vatistas, following the heritage of a mainly agricultural family, created in 1986 after long and strenuous efforts the first arable vineyard in the family fields in St Nicholas. Soon he proceeded with the vineyards on the mountainside of Pantanassa and the rest in the plain of Voion.

In 1990 driven by his love and longing for producing quality wine, he set up a small traditional winery in his vineyards, where he bottled the first wine.

The climate of the area combined with the multiple variety of the vineyards, which in some cases sweep round the sea, constitute the corner-stone of producing quality wine.

In his vineyards one can meet the local varieties of Petrouliano, Asproudi, Thrapsa, Mavroudi, Monemvasio, Smirneiko, Kidonitsa, Roditi, Mantilaria as well as Asirtiko, Aidani, Athiri, Agiorgitiko, Malagousia and the hobble foreign varieties of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet and Merlot.

Nowadays John Vatistas produces 16 selected types of wine from his privately owned vineyards which cover land of more than 60 acres.
